A rare New Year's day blue Moon

A rare New Year's day blue Moon

An hour and thirteen minutes after Aseans and China welcomes the New Year 2010, we will be treated with a rare New Year’s Day Blue Moon. No, Earth’s Moon will not turn color Blue, it has nothing to do with color (if it turns color Blue, then it is because of Earth’s atmosphere at that time). What “Blue Moon” means is that it is the second Full Moon in a single month.

This January 2010 Blue Moon is rare because it falls on New Year’s Day (or New Year’s Eve depending on where you are). This type of Blue Moons only occurs every 19 years, the last was in 1990/1991 and the next will be on 2028/2029.

Mars, a beautiful ruby shines tonight

Mars, a beautiful ruby shines tonight

Last night between 9:30 and 10:00 in the evening, we were staring at the starry skies in front of SM Mall of Asia while reminiscing the things that happened this year 2009 and the 2000 decade. During our conversation, I noticed a big and bright red star at first I thought that it was some red light from a communication tower or antennæ.

Inspecting closer (my eyes have zooming capabilities :p ) I noticed that it wasn’t what I thought it was and it wasn’t twinkling either. I got excited because I knew then that I was looking at humanity’s dream - Planet Mars!

Should Christians not celebrate Christmas?

Should Christians not celebrate Christmas?

It is the number one question many Christians (baby and mature alike) ask every time Christmas arrives. There are two camps - (1) those who say that we should not because it is not in the Christian Holy Bible and it is of pagan origin; and (2) those who say that we should celebrate it because it is the Birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.

What now? On our left, it is not really written in the Christian Holy Bible that we should celebrate our Saviour’s birth and there is the possibility that Christmas did come from a pagan holiday. Then on our right, there should be nothing wrong with remembering the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, right?

Google Public DNS vs. OpenDNS

Google Public DNS vs. OpenDNS

Last week, the search giant Google launched yet another new service to the public - Google Public DNS (“GoogleDNS”). This new service rocked the Internet and everyone, regardless of his/her location, felt the disturbance in cyberspace.

Immediately, netizens dug it, highly questioned Google’s Privacy Policies (especially the hardcore Google haters), security, and so on (and we are not going to talk about that). It even prompted an article from the world’s number one alternative DNS service OpenDNS (which I stopped using almost a month ago).

The question is, who wins when it comes to speed? GoogleDNS or OpenDNS? The winner is GoogleDNS, I’ll show you why…

How-To access Google sites and services via IPv6

How-To access Google sites and services via IPv6

Google, the largest search engine today (and the “Microsoft” of the cyberworld), is slowly deploying IPv6 across their sites. But even if you are already connected to IPv6, you will still not get an IPv6 Google.

Why? Their current IPv6 implementation is currently in its testing phase. All IPv6 access must come from a reliable network that they have to pre-approve, this is the Google over IPv6 project.

[How-To] IPv6 is not scary! Connect to next-gen Internet today!

[How-To] IPv6 is not scary! Connect to next-gen Internet today!

IPv6 or Internet Protocol version 6 is the answer to our IPv4 problem. What problem? By 2011 or 2012 (according to estimates), there will be no more IPv4 addresses left. This means that, anyone with a need to have a static IP address will not be able to get any for their project or service.

When this day comes, someone must start finding IP address owners who does not really need a static address and give it to someone who needs it seriously. We may even see owners starting to sell their extra IPs at a price far more expensive that what it is worth today.

[Video] Earth with rings

[Video] Earth with rings

You know the Planet Saturn right? That gas giant in the outer section of our solar system with beautiful rings? Yes, the planet after Jupiter and before Uranus? Good, now you remember. Have you ever wondered what it will be like to live on a planet with rings as beautiful as Saturn’s? Have you ever pictured in your mind how the rings will look like from the perspective of someone standing on that planet?

I did and I still do to this day.

But how about putting those Saturn rings right here on our own Planet Earth? What would the sky be like in our own very familiar world with huge rings above us? How about during the night? Will it be awesome or scary? Earth with rings, hmm…

The YOOki Chronicles

The YOOki Chronicles is Yohan Yukiya Sese-Cuneta’s return into casual and personal blogging. The name “YOOki” is a mash-up of the acronym of YourOnly. One and my nickname ᜌᜓᜃᜒ (Yuki・雪矢).

Interestingly, according to Chinese legend, (YOO) is an ancient Chinese surname. The ancestors of the surname were closely linked with the ancient sage-king named Yu Shun. In Korea, the (YU) lineage traces to the Xia, Han, and Joseon dynasties. Holders of the surname Yu or Yoo had a reputation for charity and diligence.1

It is also the word for “willow” or the “willow tree” which means graceful or slender; and a tree growing near a body of water which provide continuous nourishment and resources for everyone. It can also mean to exist, an oil (anointment(?)), and simply as “U” (you).

The Hanzi (ki) character means to record, be disciplined, provide order. While the Hangeul equivalent, (ki), means energy, spirit, a banner, and a period of time; and is also a suffix used to make a gerund or an infinitive.
